State Land Brush Fire
Posted On: Jun 01, 2018

On Friday afternoon June 1st, South Metro Battalion Chief 61, Brush Engine 41, IDT1 and IDT2 were among many units that responded to the 102 acre “State Land Fire” burning on the south side of East Quincy Avenue west of Watkins Road. Firefighters contended with difficult terrain and gusty winds that changed directions several times. The fire was reported at 2:36 p.m., 100% contained by 5 p.m. and was started by a downed electrical wire. No injuries occurred and no structures were threatened. Although the grass still looks pretty green, this incident is a reminder that without recent rainfall fire danger is on the rise. Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue was in command of the fire with assistance from Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, Aurora Fire Rescue, Byers Fire Protection District 9, Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, Deer Trail Fire, Falck Rocky Mountain - Aurora, Colorado, Kiowa Fire Protection District, Rattlesnake Fire Protection District, Sable Altura Fire Rescue and Strasburg Fire.
