Highway 67 Brush Fire

Just after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, Local 2164 members were requested for an automatic aid wildland fire on the north side of Highway 67 west of Rampart Range Road in the Pike National Forest. With a Red Flag and High Wind Warning in effect and 60 mph wind gusts being observed; a pre-evacuation area was established from Sugar Creek to Sedalia and additional resources were called. 11 Units from SMFR responded as well as strike teams from the west metro and north metro areas. A unified command was established between West Douglas County Fire, the U.S. Forest Service, Douglas County Sheriff and Emergency Management. 1 helicopter was used to make water drops and a dozer was used to aid members in containing the fire. The incident was officially named the “Indian Creek Fire” and as of 5:00 p.m. Tuesday it was 20% contained. The fire was caused when a tree fell on power lines. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
