Cherry Creek Trail Brush Fire
Posted On: Apr 08, 2018

At 2:16 p.m. on Sunday, April 8th multiple 911 callers reported a small vegetation fire burning along the Cherry Creek just south of the Cottonwood Bridge in Parker. The first member from Local 2164 arrived on scene 3 minutes later and discovered a fast moving grass fire spreading into the trees with no structures threatened. The response was upgraded to a large brush fire, which brought additional equipment and approximately 35 Local 2164 members. 4x4 brush trucks went off road and supplied hose lines that members used to extinguish the flames. At 2:40 p.m. the fire was declared under control and contained to about a ½ acre. Extensive “mop-up” was required which involved the use of water and foam to extinguish hot spots. Specially trained Local 2164 Sawyers used chainsaws to cut down smoldering trees; those actions prevented embers from sparking spot fires and also protected future trail-goers from falling branches. Members worked the scene for several hours along with investigators who are following up on reports of juveniles fleeing the area when the fire was noticed.
