Firehouse to the Fireground
Updated
On: Nov 06, 2009 (19:19:00)
The 2164 Foundation is once again holding our annual winter seminar. This year we are featuring Lt Bob Pressler, FDNY (Ret). Lt Pressler will be presenting an 8 hour program titled "From the Firehouse to the Firefloor."
The program will be broken into three segments:
Part 1 - The firehouse to the fire floor cover the pre-fire aspect of firefighting. What needs to be done before the alarm sounds and includes a look at the American Fire Service, firehouse life, training issues and the P.A.T.H. to being successful.
Part 2 - The 5 Point size-up, or BELOW, takes the 13 point size-up most of us use and narrows it down to the most critical points that a first to arrive officer must address with their company. The fire building is looked at by type of construction as well as by occupancy. Smoke and fire conditions are observed and “read” to gather information to determine how to attack and subdue the fire and engine and truck operations are also covered.
Part 3 - Suburban firefighting takes a look at our most common fires and discusses pre-planning, training, setting up of apparatus and operations based on staffing of 3 and 4 per unit.
